Rehearsals are at Chattahoochee HS. All rehearsals are from 3:45 – 5:15 p.m. Rehearsals start promptly at 3:45. Students should arrive early for tuning and to avoid high school dismissal traffic. Rehearsals:

The mission of the Fulton County Youth Orchestras is to provide performing groups for the county’s most talented young string orchestra musicians enrolled in the public school orchestra programs. These orchestras supplement the school orchestra program and challenge their members to greater musical excellence.

Congratulations! We are excited that you have been recommended for the Fulton County Youth Orchestra! Here is an outline of the requirements for membership in the orchestra.

FYO Participation Requirements

The Fulton Elementary Youth Orchestra accepts students in grades 3-5. The Fulton Middle School Youth Orchestra accepts students in grades 6-8. All members must be recommended by their orchestra director, be in good standing in their orchestra and have achieved the ability level expected. Once accepted, members must commit to the full season, including all activities and rehearsals scheduled for their orchestra.

Acceptance and Auditions

A $50 participation fee (EYO check made out to “Shakerag ES” )( MSYO to “Sweet Apple ES”) is due at the first rehearsal and is returned only if you are not accepted. This fee includes a FYO shirt and helps pay for music, coaching and performance fees. During the first three rehearsals, we will get acquainted and you will be issued music to learn. Auditions for acceptance in the groups will be on Tuesday, September 29^rd for FCMSYO and Tuesday, October 6^h for FCEYO. Anyone who is not accepted will be invited to audition again in January.

Attendance

Regular and prompt attendance at rehearsals is required. Attendance is taken at the beginning of the rehearsal. Only two excused absences per semester (fall/spring) are allowed. Upon the 3rd absence, the student may be dropped from the group or moved to a different chair. Students who are repeatedly tardy are also subject to being dropped or being moved to a different chair.

Rehearsals and Sectionals

Most rehearsals are in the Orchestra Room. See schedule for dates and sites. Sectional rehearsals and auditions may be held in other rooms. Signs will be posted indicating where students should report.

Musical Responsibility

Students must learn music at home so that rehearsal time may be spent on musical concepts. Players who appear to be inadequately prepared on a regular basis may be reseated or dismissed from the orchestra. Private lessons are highly encouraged, but not required.

Uniform

The uniform consists of the FYO shirt, black dress pants, black hosiery and black dress shoes. The FYO shirt fee is included in the participation fee. The shirt will be tucked into the pants. Please, no black jeans, sweat pants, or skirts.

Parking for Rehearsals

FCEYO parking at Chattahoochee is limited to the side parking lot next to the auditorium, only! Parents are encouraged to arrive early to avoid bus/dismissal traffic. For safety reasons, student pick-up should be at the bus dock only.

FCMSYO parking at Alpharetta HS is available in any parking lot. Do not park in the front driveway.

Parent Association

Parents are encouraged to become active contributors to the orchestra. The tasks you help with really make a difference! A list of tasks and help needed is included on the back of the application. Please check all areas you might help with if your child is selected as a member.
